      <image:title>Home - My philosophy</image:title>
<image:caption>Using a science-based and foods-first approach, I help families address the root causes of why our kids often don’t feel good. It’s not because our kids are broken. Or need to be “cured.” Or have some crazy overgrowth of yeast or bacteria. It’s often because they (and we parents) need to go back to the basics. Helping our kids enjoy and explore food using different approaches, figuring out helpful routines, and getting help when we need it, If our kids eat french fries, then we work with french fries. A flexible approach to wellness is the only one that will work for our children.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bio - Home Life</image:title>
<image:caption>I live in a joyfully noisy home in Moorpark, California with my rockstar husband of 14 years, Kevin, and our two kiddos (8 and 5), Our family likes swimming, board games, building stuff, and creating absurd lyrics to songs. We love to eat. During the pandemic, we focused our restless energy on a tiny patch of dirt in front of our condo to create a little food forest. Today we continue to enjoy gardening as a family, It’s amazing what kids will be willing to eat when they’ve helped water and grow it. When I’m not working/cooking/mom-ing, I usually have a cup of coffee in my hand and our dog Daisy Mae in my lap. I am involved in our church and appreciate being part of a small-town community. Kevin lovingly teases me that I’m already prepared for life as a retiree since I love doing massive jigsaw puzzles, crosswords on a clipboard, and taking long chatty walks.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bio - How This All Started</image:title>
<image:caption>My daughter’s autism diagnosis was not a surprise. What I wasn’t expecting were the mountains of misinformation about diets, supplements, feeding, screen use, and sleep for autistic children. My daughter, aka Poppy, showed signs of autism almost from birth and so her diagnosis at 4 was expected. In fact, it was met with high-fives and major relief, as a medical diagnosis in the U.S. opens a lot of doors for services and support. Since infancy, Poppy has been supported by countless therapists who helped her learn to walk, talk, and taught us how to make this HUGE world of senses more manageable for her. When I began to join online parent support groups and talk to medical professionals, I began to see so much confusion about wellness recommendations. So, I decided to start offering simple, hype-free information to help people make more informed decisions about care for their loved ones and patients.</image:caption>

<image:title>What is Autism Wellness? - So, you search the internet.</image:title>
<image:caption>And when I did this, I would read articles that preyed on parents’ desire to help their children. “Take [insert supplement] and your child will talk!” “Do [insert diet] and your child’s aggression will go away!” “Spread this magentic cream on your child’s skin and she will sleep like an angel.” Everyone is selling hope, but actual evidence-based solutions seemed few. And I wondered, am I the only one struggling to navigate all the HYPE to get to the HELP?</image:caption>

<image:title>What is Autism Wellness? - So, I did what every good scientist does. I nerded out.</image:title>
<image:caption>So, I did what every good scientist does. I nerded out big-time. I read and read and read as many research articles as I could. And I found there is quite a lot of science and research out there about eating and nutrition and sleep for autistic kids, but it’s not always making it to medical folks or parents. I created a research study to ask exactly what parents of autistic kids were struggling with Over and over I learned about how many parents felt like me. Often they felt health professionals often brushed off their concerns about picky eating, growth, or sleep. Or if they took them seriously, they didn’t have advice that worked for an autistic child. So, after interviewing these parents I went and interviewed dozens of medical professionals -pediatricians, developmental pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, dietitians, you name it! Interestingly, most medical folks in my study felt unqualified to help parents address picky eating or sleep issues, especially for autistic kids who often have unique sensory and behavioral differences from the typical patient population. And so, I found my calling!</image:caption>
